30/ Petra Authority: Restoration work underway in ancient city
Petra, Feb. 11 (Petra) -- Petra Archaeological and Tourism Reserve Commissioner Yazan Mahadin said on Wednesday that restoration and maintenance projects in Petra are proceeding according to highest standards, in line with a national strategy to preserve the city’s unique cultural heritage. Mahadin and a Heritage Resources Management Directorate team inspected restoration work at the "Qabr Al-Jara -Urn Tomb (Al-Mahkama)" site, a key architectural testimony to the ancient Nabatean civilization. The team saw accomplishments first-hand, including architectural documentation, treatment of structural elements, stabilization of the courthouse staircase, and cleaning of rock facades. These measures aim to protect the site from natural deterioration and ensure its sustainability for future generations. Mahadin said the projects are a key step in preserving one of Petra’s key landmarks and strengthening the comprehensive protection system of the reserve. The work is carried out by the Heritage Resources Management team with specialized technical staff under an integrated plan focused on safeguarding cultural heritage, improving site management, and promoting sustainability principles within the reserve. //Petra// NQ
