52/ JMD Predicts Above-Average Temperatures for February
Amman, Feb 11 (Petra) - The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecasted that the average temperatures in February will be higher than the annual average by about 3–4.5 degrees Celsius in most areas of the kingdom, with a probability of up to 100 percent. It also indicated that rainfall totals are likely to be below their monthly averages in most regions. The JMD, based on its climate analyses and relying on simulations of available data and outputs from the European Model (ECMWF) February 2026 edition, issued the latest update of seasonal forecasts related to deviations of temperature averages and rainfall amounts from their general monthly averages in the kingdom for February and March 2026. It noted that February rainfall totals are expected to be below their monthly averages in most areas of the kingdom, with a probability ranging between 60–70 percent. Meanwhile, totals are expected to be slightly below average in parts of northern and central Jordan, with a probability of approximately 40 percent. Regarding March 2026, forecasts indicated that average temperatures will be higher than the annual average by about 1.0–2.0 degrees Celsius in most areas of the kingdom, with a probability of around 60 percent. As for rainfall during March, totals are expected to be slightly below their monthly averages in most areas of the kingdom, with a probability ranging between 50–60 percent. The JMD emphasized that seasonal forecasts are long-term climate predictions reflecting general trends compared with standard climate averages. They do not necessarily mean the absence of rainy periods or the lack of impact from active weather systems during this time. They are also not linked to short- or medium-term weather forecasts issued by the department on a daily or weekly basis. //Petra// AF
