15/ Arab League talks role of youth in advancing digital culture

Cairo, February 14 (Petra) – Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League Rashid Khattabi said that youth are a top priority for the League.

Khattabi discussed the youths' role in promoting digital culture and raising awareness about the future of AI and its impact on the labour market, calling for preparing for the challenges posed by profound digital transformations across various sectors.

During the 10th Arab Youth Media Forum, organised by Misr University for Science and Technology in Cairo, Khattabi discussed Arab initiatives launched at the Arab Development Summit held last May in Baghdad aimed at strengthening digital cooperation and promoting the sustainable use of artificial intelligence, while safeguarding cultural privacy, protecting data and ensuring digital sovereignty.

He called for the adoption of the Arab Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and related initiatives, including the Arab Charter on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the Strategic Action Plan of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information.

He said that the Council of Arab Information Ministers adopted the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy and its implementation plan, designed to enhance media education and digital awareness among young people.

He raised a recommendation by the Executive Office to develop an ethical charter to regulate the Arab digital space, ensuring responsible freedom while protecting the rights of others.
