16/ Senate passes 7 draft laws in Sunday session

Amman, Feb.15 (Petra) – The Senate approved seven draft laws as received from the Lower House of Representatives and returned the amended Competition Law to deputies after revising two of its articles.

The approvals took place during a session held on Sunday, chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez, and attended by the Cabinet members.

The approved bills provided amendments to the Electronic Transactions Law, the Notary Public Law, and the Jordanian Endowments, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites Law. The Senate also ratified four agreements with Morocco, Uzbekistan, and Spain.

Regarding the amended Competition Law, the Senate rejected the House's decision to remove the phrase: "any practices" from Article (3) of the draft law, which pertains to anti-competitive practices. Senators also declined to omit "or any other form" from Article (6), which defines economic concentration.

On their goals, the extradition pacts with Spain and Uzbekistan address cooperation in combating and reducing crime, ensuring justice, and facilitating extradition of persons.

Meanwhile, the agreements on mutual legal and judicial assistance and transfer of sentenced persons between Jordan and Morocco regulate bilateral legal and judicial assistance in criminal matters and transfer of prisoners serving custodial sentences.
