42/ Awqaf Ministry Unveils Comprehensive Ramadan Plan

Amman, Feb 15 (Petra) - The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced its comprehensive plan for the holy month of Ramadan, which includes an integrated religious, scholarly, and media program, in addition to a wide package of initiatives implemented by the Zakat Fund and special programs at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Jerusalem Awqaf Department.

The plan, which was reviewed by the Cabinet on Sunday, aligns with the ministry’s religious and national message to promote solidarity and compassion, consolidate the Kingdom’s scholarly and preaching role during Ramadan, and serve worshipers in Jordan and Jerusalem.

The plan includes holding the Hashemite Scientific Councils under Royal patronage every Friday during the holy month at the Grand Conference Hall of the Islamic Cultural Center at the Martyr King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein Mosque in Abdali, with the participation of a select group of scholars from inside and outside the Kingdom.

This year’s Hashemite Councils address the topics "The Holy Quran as the First and Strongest Source of Evidence," "The Prophetic Sunnah as the Second Source with Clarification and Elucidation," "Consensus as the Safety Valve Against Deviation," and "Analogical Reasoning as the Basis of Ijtihad and the Flexibility of Islamic Sharia."

The ministry’s plan also includes organizing the 33rd Hashemite International Competition for Males with the participation of 60 countries, in addition to broadcasting the final round of the local Hashemite Competition for Females, with the participation of 167 contestants, on Jordan Radio and Television Corporation (JRTV) during the holy month. The awards ceremony for winners will be held on the nights of the 27th and 28th of Ramadan and broadcast live on Jordan Television and the Holy Quran Radio.

On the preaching and media side, the ministry allocated daily live broadcast programs from main mosques, including at sunset and suhur, the Isha and Taraweeh prayers, and religious lessons from Al-Husseini Grand Mosque in Amman, through the JRTV and the Holy Quran Radio, in addition to live television coverage from King Hussein bin Talal Mosque and the Martyr King King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein Mosque.

The Zakat Fund announced the launch of a campaign to distribute 12,000 shopping vouchers valued at JD30 each, totaling JD360,000, in addition to distributing 40,000 food parcels through Zakat committees, providing cash Eid gifts to poor families and orphans, delivering 15 income-generating projects at a cost of JD45,000, and renovating 10 homes for needy families. The plan also includes organizing group iftars for orphans across governorates, settling debts of a number of indebted women, and organizing charitable forums and free medical days during the month.

In Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department announced a comprehensive program that includes organizing the Athan (call to prayer) and imamate, religious lessons, the observance of Laylat Al-Qadr, opening all mosques affiliated with the Awqaf in the Old City, and allocating mosques for overnight stay and rest.

The plan also includes comprehensive maintenance works for infrastructure and electricity, installing umbrellas and tents to protect worshippers from weather conditions, enhancing health readiness through field clinics and ambulances in coordination with relevant authorities, intensifying security and organizing the movement of worshippers, providing daily cleaning and sterilization teams, and reinforcing the custodial staff.

The programs also include the continued operation of the Haseki Sultan Imaret to prepare and distribute daily iftar meals for about 300 Jerusalemite families and provide iftar and suhur meals for the guards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, while the Jerusalem Zakat Committee will intensify its support for poor families and orphans during the holy month.
