37/ Israeli airstrikes kill two in southern Lebanon
Beirut, February 16 (Petra) – Two Lebanese were killed in separate airstrikes carried out by the Israeli army on the towns of Hanin and Tallousa in southern Lebanon, the Ministry of Public Health announced Monday. A Lebanese security source told Petra's correspondent in Beirut that Israeli forces were heavily shelling several towns in the south, destrying several houses. The source added that the Lebanese army established two main positions in the border town of Adaysseh one facing the border wall gate in Misgav Am, and another opposite a newly established Israeli position in the buffer zone south of the town. Separately, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking from Beirut on Monday, said that Germany would continue to stand by Lebanon following the conclusion of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission at the end of 2026. At a joint press conference after talks with Lebanese officials, Steinmeier said that the German federal government has repeatedly rejected any permanent occupation of Lebanese territory, adding that occupation is unacceptable and must come to an end. //Petra// AK
