22/ Jordan Takes Part in 6th Global Conference on Elimination of Child Labour in Morocco

Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) -- Jordan participated in the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, held in Marrakesh, Morocco.

According to a Labour Ministry statement Tuesday, Secretary-General Abdul Halim Dujan headed the Jordanian delegation.

Held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, the event brought together representatives of the International Labour Organization, governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and civil society groups.

The conference aimed to strengthen cooperation among countries, governments, international and regional organizations, civil society and the private sector to coordinate efforts, exchange expertise and share successful experiences in combating child labour.

The sessions also sought to integrate child labour elimination into national policies on development, education, social protection and labour markets.

Discussions focused on exchanging best practices and successful national experiences, enabling countries to benefit from proven models in reducing child labour.

Focusing on education and social protection as key pillars, participants stressed that quality, inclusive education and social safety nets for low-income families represent the first line of defense against child labour.

The conference also addressed sustainable solutions by linking child labour elimination to promotion of decent work opportunities and support for local development, particularly in rural areas and vulnerable sectors, mainly agriculture.
