23/ Senate Committee, Cypriot Envoy Discuss Cooperation
Amman, Feb. 17 -- The Senate's Jordanian-Cypriot Friendship Committee met on Tuesday with Cyprus’ Ambassador to Jordan Sevag Avedissian to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations across multiple sectors. Talking at the meeting held at the Senate's headquarters, Committee Chairman Senator Issa Ayoub said Jordanian- Cypriot relations are "distinguished" and built on mutual respect, citing "tangible progress" in economic, parliamentary, cultural, and educational cooperation. Ayoub also praised Cyprus’ support for Jordan’s position, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, on the Palestinian issue and the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites. Ayoub called for expanding cooperation in economic, cultural, educational, trade, and tourist fields, highlighting Jordan’s tourism assets, particularly religious and medical tourism. In turn, Avedissian said Cyprus is "keen" to further develop relations with Jordan and commended the advanced level of bilateral ties and the strategic partnership linking the two countries, especially in parliamentary, educational, economic, and cultural areas. The diplomat added that Cyprus, as it chairs the Council of the European Union, supports strengthening the Jordan-EU partnership. Meanwhile, the committee's members Ali Ayed, Yahya Kasbi, Haifa Najjar, George Hazboun, Zuhair Abu Fares, and others stressed the "deep-rooted" Jordan-Cyprus relations and the importance of sustaining communication, meetings, and reciprocal visits. //Petra// AO
