29/ IEC addresses 6 Jordanian political parties to rectify bylaws

Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) –Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced it has sent official letters to six Jordanian political parties that have not yet completed procedures for amending their by-laws.

These letters request the target parties to seize the one-week extension granted from the date of receiving the official notifications.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the IEC said this step is a continuation of previous procedures.

Since last June, the IEC's Political Parties Registry has notified all registered parties to align their by-laws with the standards of good governance and adhere to the regulatory and legal frameworks governing work of political parties.

The registry noted the target political parties are: The Jordan Labor Party, the Renaissance and Workers Party, the National Constitutional Party, the Islamic Action Front, the Workers Party, and the Building and Labor Party.

The IEC underlined its "commitment" to enabling parties to fulfill compliance requirements within the specified timeframes.

The IEC also stressed that it will apply deadlines and provisions contained in Article (33) of the Jordan Political Parties Law to any party that fails to provide the necessary information and the required documents and amendments after the expiration of the granted extension.

The IEC added that adherence to the law's provisions and the principles of good governance constitutes a "key" pillar in developing the parties' work.
