40/ Cabinet Approves Payment of JD42 Million in Arrears to Textbook Printers
Amman, Feb 17 (Petra) - The Council of Ministers, at a session held on Tuesday chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, decided to approve the payment of arrears accumulated over five years, amounting to JD42 million, in favor of 11 printing presses that had been tasked with printing school textbooks and curricula for the Ministry of Education, including JD30 million that the Cabinet had approved last Sunday within a package of arrears payments totaling JD125 million. The decision is part of the government’s policy of settling arrears and accumulated debts over years in favor of a number of entities, as the total amounts paid by the government in recent weeks have reached more than JD287 million. The Cabinet had decided at its session last Sunday to settle arrears accumulated over five years on ministries and government and official institutions in favor of electricity distribution companies, amounting to about JD60 million, in addition to settling arrears owed by Yarmouk Water Company worth JD10 million and by the Water Authority amounting to JD25 million, in favor of electricity distribution companies. The Cabinet had also decided last week to settle dues and arrears to public universities exceeding JD100 million, preceded as well by the settlement of the indebtedness of King Abdullah University Hospital amounting to JD40 million and the University of Jordan Hospital amounting to JD10 million. On another level, the Cabinet decided to appoint Dhamam Mohammad Abdul Qader Khraisat as Director General of the Jordan Postal Savings Fund, after he obtained the highest scores in accordance with the competition conducted under the Regulation for Appointment to Leadership Positions. //Petra// AF
