5/ JCC Expands Trade Ties with Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan
Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) -- The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) signed two cooperation agreements with counterparts in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, advancing efforts to diversify trade partnerships and create new market opportunities for the private sector. The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 41st General Assembly meetings of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development in Saudi Arabia, according to a chamber statement issued Tuesday. Under the agreement with Uzbekistan, the two sides will establish a Jordanian–Uzbek Joint Business Council aimed at institutionalizing ties between the two business communities and creating a permanent platform for direct engagement between companies. The council will be overseen by a joint executive committee responsible for setting strategic priorities and implementing annual work plans, supported by a joint secretariat to coordinate trade missions, meetings, and follow-up activities. The council will hold annual meetings alternating between Amman and Tashkent and will form specialized working groups across priority sectors, including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food industries, sustainable energy, information and communications technology, construction and infrastructure, logistics, finance and banking, tourism, and culture. In a separate agreement, the chamber and Azerbaijan’s National Confederation of Entrepreneurs agreed to strengthen economic and investment cooperation and create a structured platform for dialogue between business leaders in both countries. The agreement also provides for regular meetings alternating between Amman and Baku, increased participation in trade fairs and economic events, and the exchange of business delegations, with a particular focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and integrating them into regional and global value chains. Chamber President Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq said the agreements form part of a broader strategy to expand the chamber’s international footprint and deepen engagement with emerging markets in Central Asia and the Caucasus. He added that the next phase will focus on translating the agreements into sector-specific programmes and trade initiatives aimed at boosting bilateral trade and joint investment. //Petra// RZ
