7/ Jordan Records 11 Patents, 717 Trademarks in January

Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) -- The innovation and intellectual property sector kicked off 2026 with notable activity, as the country registered 11 new patents in January, 10 of which were domestic filings, alongside a surge in trademark registrations.

Data from the Directorate of Industrial Property Protection at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply show that 717 trademarks were newly registered last month, with an additional 401 marks renewed. The Directorate also completed 28 patent renewals, issued a trademark usage license, approved 108 name and address updates for existing industrial properties, and processed 70 transfers of ownership rights.

A patent in Jordan protects inventive ideas in any technical field, covering new products, manufacturing methods, or both, that solve a specific problem. The registration process guides inventors from application submission through final certification, including technical evaluations and public disclosures to ensure transparency and compliance with legal requirements.

Trademarks, meanwhile, serve as visible identifiers that distinguish a company’s goods or services from competitors, reinforcing brand identity and market presence.

The early-year figures reflect a dynamic environment for intellectual property in Jordan, highlighting the government’s efforts to streamline procedures and support innovators, entrepreneurs, and businesses in protecting their creations and building stronger brands.
