13/ GAM begins upgrading tunnels, bridges at 24 traffic intersections in Amman
Amman, Feb. 18 (Petra) – Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has begun maintenance work on a number of tunnels and bridges at 24 traffic intersections on several main roads within the capital city of Amman. This initiative is part of the municipality's efforts to enhance infrastructure efficiency, improve traffic safety, and enhance the city's urban landscape. In a statement Wednesday, the municipality said the maintenance work is carried out under a dedicated tender valued at JD349,200 and a contingency fund of JD20,000, as the project is expected to take 180 days to complete. On its goals, the project will ensure an "extended lifespan" for the tunnel and bridge infrastructure and improve the intersections' urban appearance. The GAM indicated that the work sites cover "major" thoroughfares in Amman and various vital areas with tunnels and bridges that experience high traffic volumes. The municipality noted the project aligns with its "strategic" goal of establishing a "modern, organized, and safe" road network, and its key vision for improving and maintaining the road network, infrastructure, and intersections, enhancing public safety, and enhancing experience of road users. Additional upgrades will be carried out as needed within the allocated contingency budget, based on safety priorities and requirements of the traffic situation during the implementation period, the GAM said. //Petra// AG
