Amman, Feb. 18 (Petra) -- Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment, Omar Arabiyat, led Jordan's delegation to the sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation under the Convention on Biological Diversity, held in Rome from Feb. 16 to 19.

Representatives from parties to the convention reviewed progress in implementing commitments and decisions related to the global biodiversity framework.

In his address, Arabiyat said achieving biodiversity goals requires mobilizing financial resources for developing countries, providing predictable additional direct funding, simplifying access procedures, and enhancing technical support and technology transfer aligned with national priorities.

He emphasized linking capacity-building programs to actual national needs and strengthening monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure tangible and sustainable outcomes.

The delegation focused on recommendations regarding resource mobilization, financial mechanisms, and capacity building, while highlighting the importance of engaging stakeholders and local communities in biodiversity protection efforts.

Jordan reaffirmed a commitment to cooperating with the Secretariat and other parties to ensure effective and balanced implementation of the convention, supporting international efforts to preserve biodiversity and achieve sustainable development goals.
