42/ Head of Salt Municipality, Turkish Ambassador Discuss Expanding Cooperation

Salt, Feb 18 (Petra) - Chairman of the Greater Salt Municipality Committee Ali Al-Batayneh discussed with Türkiye's Ambassador to Jordan Yakup Caymazoglu prospects for strengthening Jordanian-Turkish relations and expanding cooperation at the local level.

The talks come amid growing bilateral ties under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, particularly following their recent meeting in Istanbul, which focused on broadening economic, trade, and investment collaboration, as well as enhancing partnerships and exchanging practical and scientific expertise.

Al-Batayneh highlighted the deep-rooted historical relations between Jordan and Türkiye, noting that Greater Salt Municipality encompassing Al-Salt, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city looks forward to establishing effective development partnerships with the Turkish side, particularly in managing historic cities, municipal expertise exchange, and promoting cultural tourism.

He added that with the two countries approaching the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, intensified efforts are needed to launch initiatives and projects that translate the depth of historical ties into tangible local-level cooperation.

For his part, Ambassador Caymazoglu expressed his pleasure at visiting Salt, praising the warm reception and hospitality. He affirmed that Jordanian-Turkish relations are witnessing unprecedented growth across various sectors.

Discussions also covered prospects for cooperation in key sectors, notably tourism, joint promotion of heritage cities especially Salt in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), as well as the exchange of expertise in waste management, urban planning, and infrastructure development.
