44/ Petra District Welcomes Ramadan with Spiritual and Community Initiatives
Petra, Feb 18 (Petra) - Areas across the Petra District have finalized preparations to receive the holy month of Ramadan, which begins Thursday, amid spiritual and social atmospheres reflecting the month’s special place in the local community. Mosques have completed arrangements for nightly prayers and religious programs, alongside a rise in charitable and volunteer initiatives organized annually by residents and youth. Residents told The Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the district embraces Ramadan with distinctive spiritual scenes, from decorating neighborhoods to preparing for worship, family gatherings, and social activities that strengthen solidarity and compassion among community members. Citizen Ahmad Al-Nawafleh said families are keen to prepare both their homes and hearts ahead of Ramadan, welcoming the month with joy and serenity, reflecting its deep-rooted significance in local life. Mohammad Fudoul, an imam at one of the district’s mosques, noted that mosques have finalized Ramadan programs, including religious lessons, Quran recitation circles, and competitions for children and youth to reinforce faith-based values across age groups. Volunteer Mohammad Al-Hilalat highlighted that local youth have begun organizing Ramadan charity campaigns, including food parcel distribution and iftar meals for families in need and travelers, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation that defines the community during the holy month. On the tourism front, Talal Twaissi, owner of a restaurant in Petra, said tourism establishments have prepared special iftar and suhur menus inspired by local cuisine, accompanied by traditional décor and Ramadan ornaments.
