5/ Jordan Studies Electric Vehicles as Grid Batteries to Boost Power System Efficiency
Amman, Feb. 18 (Petra) -- Jordan is examining the use of electric vehicles as distributed energy storage to strengthen grid efficiency and support the long-term sustainability of the electricity sector, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Wednesday. Secretary-General Amani Al-Azzam said the approach could improve both the technical performance and financial sustainability of the power system as the Kingdom continues to update its energy strategies and deepen integration across the sector. Speaking during a specialized workshop on electric-vehicle energy storage, Al-Azzam said faster-than-expected growth in the energy sector creates an opportunity to harness new technologies to support the national grid and enhance system resilience. The workshop, backed by the European Union through its Technical Assistance Programme for the Green Economy in Jordan, reviewed international best practices and presented an initial analytical model developed to assess the feasibility of using electric vehicles as distributed storage assets. Officials, private-sector representatives and energy specialists discussed mechanisms to strengthen system coordination and explore innovative solutions aimed at improving grid performance and long-term efficiency. //Petra// RZ
