14/ UN Warns of High Fire, Health Risks Facing Displaced Families in Gaza Camps
Amman, Feb. 21 (Petra) – The United Nations warned that displaced Palestinian families living in overcrowded camps inside the Gaza Strip continue to face high risks of fire outbreaks, alongside worsening health threats, amid the ongoing need for safer and more adequate housing solutions. According to the UN News website, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Saturday that many families are forced to cook, sleep, and store their belongings in cramped spaces where open flames are used, noting that at least 12 fire incidents have been recorded inside shelters since last November. Within just ten days of the current month of February, humanitarian workers were able to provide shelter to 85 families in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis after their shelters were damaged by a fire that broke out in Gaza City, the same source said. //Petra// AF
