18/ House Foreign Affairs Committee Condemns U.S. Envoy’s Remarks on Israeli Control of Middle East
Amman, Feb. 21 (Petra) - The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee condemned statements made by the United States ambassador to the Israeli occupation, in which he claimed the "acceptability of Israel’s control over the entire Middle East, in addition to the occupied West Bank." In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee described the remarks as "absurd and provocative," representing a blatant violation of diplomatic norms and a direct infringement on the sovereignty of countries in the region. It affirmed that the statements constitute a grave breach of international law and the United Nations Charter and categorically contradict the declared position of U.S. President Donald Trump rejecting the annexation of the West Bank. The committee stressed that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are "occupied Palestinian territories" in accordance with international resolutions, underscoring that the only path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace lies in ending the occupation and realizing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state over the entire occupied Palestinian territory based on the two-state solution. It emphasized that such irresponsible statements carry no legal value or practical effect but rather undermine de-escalation efforts and fuel conflict in the region. The committee called on the international community to unite efforts to stabilize Gaza and implement Security Council Resolution 2803, instead of engaging in escalatory positions that disregard the foundations of international legitimacy. It also affirmed that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership and legislative institutions, will remain steadfast in defending legitimate Palestinian rights and the sovereignty and stability of countries in the region against any attempts to impose a new reality that bypasses international law. //Petra// AF
