19/ Ramadan Iftar Tables in Petra Become Space for Cultural Exchange Between Locals and Foreign Visitors
Petra District, Feb. 21 (Petra) - Ramadan iftar tables in restaurants and the homes of several residents in Petra District have turned into a space for cultural and human interaction between foreign visitors and the local community, in a scene reflecting the authenticity of Jordanian and Islamic heritage and the values of generosity and hospitality during the holy month. Tourist and popular restaurants in Petra have sought to introduce tourists to Ramadan iftar rituals in Jordan by serving traditional Ramadan dishes and explaining customs associated with the blessed month. Several residents also took the initiative to host foreign visitors at their tables in individual efforts that embodied the spirit of solidarity and cultural openness. Mohammad Tawaisi, who hosted a foreign tourist in his home, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that hosting visitors during Ramadan reflects the authentic values of the local community and allows tourists to experience the details of daily life and Ramadan customs in Petra up close. For her part, the owner of a popular restaurant in Petra, Umm Ahmad Al-Bdoul, said local restaurants are keen during the holy month to offer heritage dishes such as mansaf, maqluba, and traditional soups, while also introducing tourists to the significance of Ramadan and its spiritual atmosphere. She noted a growing turnout of visitors seeking to experience Ramadan iftar. Several tourists expressed their appreciation for the experience. Italian tourist Felice Meier said that sharing an iftar table with a family from Petra was a warm human experience through which he learned about authentic Ramadan traditions. French tourist Anne Laurent said that having iftar in a popular restaurant allowed her to taste traditional Jordanian dishes and learn about the local culture. German tourist Daniel Brian said that being invited to iftar at the home of a Petra resident gave him a deeper understanding of the spirit of the community in the city.
