Amman, Feb. 21 (Petra) - The selling price of 21-karat gold, the most sought-after by citizens in the local market, reached JD103.60 per gram on Saturday for sales at jewelry shops, compared with JD98.90 for purchase, amid weak supply and demand.

The selling price per gram of 24-karat and 18-karat gold for purchase from jewelry shops stood at JD118.80, JD92.30, and JD72.10, respectively.

According to President of the General Syndicate for Owners of Trading Shops and Gold and Jewelry Goldsmiths, Rebhi Allan, the price of the Rashadi lira, weighing 7 grams, reached JD722, while the English lira, weighing 8 grams, stood at JD825.

He told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the yellow metal closed its weekly trading sessions in the global market on Friday at $5,106 per ounce, noting that gold prices rose by $150 per ounce during trading on Thursday and Friday.

He added that prevailing political factors, particularly the Iranian nuclear file, are the main driver behind the rise in gold prices in global markets.
