29/ House Committees Denounce U.S. Envoy’s Remarks on Israel
Amman, Feb. 21 (Petra) - The Lower House Palestine Committee and the National Charter Party Bloc strongly condemned statements issued by the U.S. ambassador to Israel, describing them as a dangerous escalation and incitement that could increase tensions in the region. The committee said in a statement that the remarks involve provocation and escalation that exacerbate regional tension and constitute a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian issue. It affirmed that Israel is an occupying power exercising colonial control over Palestinian territories, stressing that Palestine is a territory under occupation and that its people have the full right to self-determination and to establish their independent sovereign state over all its national territory with Jerusalem as its capital. The committee added that Jordan will remain a strong barrier against any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or national principles and will continue its steadfast role in defending Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian issue. It stressed that any attempts to entrench annexation or impose domination will not grant legitimacy to the occupation, noting that such statements reflect a dangerous escalation that could deepen regional polarization, further complicate the political scene, and undermine serious prospects for containing tensions or moving toward a balanced and just negotiation path leading to sustainable peace. The bloc said in a statement on Saturday that such remarks fuel tension and instability in a region already suffering from accumulated crises, stressing the need for international officials to adhere to dialogue and mutual respect to enhance regional security and peace. It reaffirmed the bloc’s position, derived from the stance of the Jordanian state and His Majesty King Abdullah II, supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent state on their national territory in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, stressing that any proposal that infringes upon or bypasses these rights is rejected and condemned. The bloc also emphasized the positions of His Majesty the King regarding Arab issues, especially the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their national territory. It called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and work seriously to revive a genuine political process that leads to a just and comprehensive solution ensuring security and stability in the region. //Petra// AF
