10/ Lower House: US envoy to Israel's remarks jeopardize regional security
Amman, Feb 23 (Petra) – The Lower House on Monday decried remarks by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee as "delusional" as they justify Israel's control over Arab lands and open the door to further its extremism and crimes. During a legislative session, attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and cabinet ministers, Speaker Mazen Qadi called the envoy's statements "provocative, a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, and a serious infringement on the sovereignty of states." "We in the House of Representatives reaffirm that the West Bank and Gaza Strip are Palestinian territory over which Israel has no sovereignty, nor over any other occupied Arab land," he said. Furthermore, proposals based on religious narratives are rejected as they undermine the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution," he added. The Speaker commended the unanimous official Arab and Islamic stances rejecting these statements, urging the international community to uphold its responsibility in protecting the international law and preventing any attempts to impose a fait accompli or legitimize the occupation. He reiterated the House's full support of His Majesty King Abdullah II in defending Jordan's higher interests and protecting its sovereignty, which, he said, has been and will remain Impregnable to all ambitions and steadfast in the will of its leadership and the awareness of its people. Qadi recalled the heroism and sacrifices of the Jordan armed forces in their defense of Arab causes, foremost of which is the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, until they regain freedom and establish an independent state on their national soil. //Petra//SS
