16/ Jordan Tracks Iraq’s UN Submission on Iraq-Kuwait Maritime Areas

Amman, Feb. 23 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs said Monday it is "closely monitoring" the implications of Iraq’s submission to the United Nations of coordinates and maps concerning maritime areas between Iraq and Kuwait.

The ministry stressed the need to respect international law, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and related agreements between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Majali underlined Jordan’s steadfast support for Kuwait’s sovereignty over its land and maritime territories, as well as its territorial integrity.

He emphasized resolving disputes through dialogue based on international law, respecting state sovereignty, and fostering good-neighborly relations, which strengthen ties, safeguard mutual interests, and contribute to regional security and stability.
