30/ Culture minister, Chinese envoy talk cultural cooperation

Amman, January 6 (Petra) – Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh and the Ambassador of China to Jordan, Guo Wei, discussed ways to enhance cultural cooperation, including the organisation of joint cultural weeks.

The meeting, held at the Royal Cultural Centre in Amman, addressed holding joint artistic events involving cultural and artistic groups, as well as the exchange of expertise and experiences in various cultural fields.

Both sides discussed the ties between Jordan and China and called for developing joint educational and training programmes. They highlighted the role of youth and artistic initiatives in promoting cultural understanding and strengthening relations.

Rawashdeh discussed the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II in defending the Palestinian cause, noting the King's role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem through the Hashemite Custodianship.

He stressed that the custodianship represents a historical and political responsibility aimed at preserving the city's identity and preventing attempts to undermine its religious and historical significance.

He added that the efforts are widely appreciated by the international community and reflect Jordan's steadfast commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

Guo Wei, in turn, discussed the second summit to be held on the sidelines of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum in mid-June, organised by the Chinese government in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

He proposed organising Jordanian cultural events alongside the summit to further strengthen cultural exchange and foster closer ties between the two peoples.
