18/ Buwayda Dam Overflows in Irbid as Municipality Issues Safety Warning

Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Tuesday announced the overflow of Buwayda Dam in northern Jordan in Irbid Governorate. The dam’s storage capacity is 700,000 cubic meters.

Ramtha Municipality urged residents to steer clear of the dam’s channel and from floodwater paths to protect public safety, citing heavy flows of rainwater moving from Mafraq Governorate toward the Buwayda area.

The municipality called on citizens to comply with instructions and avoid approaching these areas, noting that the dam’s channel is currently experiencing continuous runoff.

Municipality teams conducted a field inspection of the Buwayda area to assess the dam’s status and facilities, particularly after a noticeable rise in stored water levels that exceeded previous years’ rates.
