46/ Jerash Agriculture Directorate Issues Frost Precautions for Farmers, Livestock Breeders

Jerash, Jan. 20 (Petra) - The Directorate of Agriculture in Jerash has urged farmers, livestock breeders, and beekeepers to take precautionary measures during the ongoing frost wave affecting the Kingdom.

Ola Mahasneh, Director of the Jerash Agriculture Directorate, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the Agricultural and Animal Guidance Division issued a set of instructions to help mitigate frost damage.

Recommendations include tightly closing greenhouses after noon to retain heat, irrigating crops to reduce frost impact, and maintaining doors and plastic covers to prevent them from being blown away.

She advised sheep breeders to cover barns, doors, and windows with plastic to preserve warmth and to place newborns in well-sealed areas. Cattle should be kept in closed stables and shaded barns during extreme cold, with newborn calves protected from drafts in dry, clean locations.

Poultry farmers were urged to provide adequate heating while ensuring proper ventilation, and beekeepers were instructed to secure hive covers, avoid opening hives during frost, insulate hives with straw bales, narrow hive entrances, and provide sugar feed, especially for weak colonies.
