42/ Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Traffic Across Germany

Amman, Jan. 26 (Petra)- Heavy snowfall disrupted traffic on Monday across large areas of Germany.
Reports from states including Saxony, Brandenburg, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern indicated an increase in road accidents in the country’s northeast.

According to Deutsche Welle, the railway company said delays and cancellations occurred in long-distance train services, noting that this included all of southern Germany in addition to trips to and from Berlin, Hamburg, and Hanover.

In Berlin, transport companies were forced to cancel tram services due to the freezing of overhead power lines, and restrictions were also imposed on public transport services in other parts of the capital. Parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg remained under severe weather warnings from the German Meteorological Service due to the risk of so-called black ice, while similar warnings were issued in parts of northern Bavaria as a result of snowfall.
