40/ Jordan Takes Part in 57th Cairo International Book Fair

Cairo, Jan. 27 (Petra)- Jordan, represented by the Ministry of Culture and several publishing houses under the umbrella of the Union of Jordanian Publishers, is taking part in the 57th Cairo International Book Fair, which opened under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Jordan’s Ambassador to Cairo, Amjad Adaileh, visited the Ministry of Culture’s pavilion during his participation in the fair’s opening ceremony, praising the broad and effective Jordanian participation in this international cultural event.

In statements to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Ibrahim Al-Amiri, Director of the Cultural Promotion and Marketing Directorate at the Ministry of Culture, said Jordan’s participation in this important cultural event comes within a national approach aimed at supporting the publishing industry and enhancing the presence of the Jordanian book in the Arab cultural scene, by providing local publishing houses with the opportunity to reach a wider audience and open up to regional markets.

He noted that the participation is carried out through institutional coordination between the public and private sectors, with the Union of Jordanian Publishers contributing to organizing and facilitating the participation of between 70 and 100 Jordanian publishing houses, reflecting the diversity of the Kingdom’s cultural scene and the vitality of its publishing sector.

He added that, in parallel, the Jordanian Ministry of Culture is participating in the fair as an official publisher through a range of series and publications it issues annually, amounting to nearly 200 new titles in the fields of thought, literature, philosophy, history, social sciences, and other areas of knowledge, in support of Jordanian authors and the movement of writing and publishing.

Al-Amiri said the participation embodies Jordan’s continuous cultural presence in Arab forums and reflects the depth of cultural relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Arab Republic of Egypt, within the framework of joint cultural cooperation agreements that enhance knowledge exchange between the two countries. It also affirms the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting culture as a fundamental pillar of intellectual development, a tool for civilizational communication, and a platform for dialogue and openness to different cultures.

For his part, Salah Tillawi, representative of the Dar Al-Ayam for Publishing and Distribution, which is participating in the fair, affirmed the keenness of Jordanian publishing houses to participate continuously for many years in the Cairo International Book Fair. He pointed to Jordan’s achievement in winning two seats on the board of the Arab Publishers Association and to its active presence in the association's committees, including chairing the Artificial Intelligence Committee, which serves as an umbrella organization for publishers’ associations worldwide.

He noted that about 38 Jordanian publishing houses are participating in the fair this year, marking a strong presence at a cultural event considered among the most important globally.

Jordan won two seats in the elections for the board of the Arab Publishers' Association, held in Cairo last night on the sidelines of the Cairo International Book Fair.

Also, the 57th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair is the largest in its history in terms of participation, diversity of activities, and richness of cultural and intellectual content, with unprecedented participation by about 1,457 publishing houses from 83 countries, totaling 6,637 exhibitors, marking the widest international participation since the fair’s launch.
