13/ PSD issues weather warning
Amman, Jan 28 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) warned of a weather system crossing the country on Wednesday, bringing showers in the north and extending to the rest of the Kingdom, while temperatures will drop. Showers might be heavy at times and accompanied by thunder and hail, according to forecasts. The directorate urged caution and safe driving, and to avoid valleys and low-lying areas, which could experience flash floods, especially in the north and center of the Kingdom. It also advised not to try to cross flooded roads, streams, or standing water on foot or in a vehicle. The PSD further stressed driving cautiously on roads with rainfall and reduced horizontal visibility caused by fog over hilly areas and dust in desert regions. It also warned of high wind speeds and strong gusts, and reminded of the need to secure loose objects. It also called for the proper and safe use of heating devices, advising against refueling them while they are lit, ensuring they are turned off before going to sleep, maintaining ventilation in homes, and avoiding the use of wood-burning stoves due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The PSD said its crews are ready to respond to any incidents, and reminded the public to call the unified emergency hotline 911 if needed. //Petra//SS
