27/ Water minister calls for improving services for citizens

Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, noted the need to implement His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to the government within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision and the Water Sector Strategy, and improve the level of services provided to citizens nationwide.

The minister's remarks came during a virtual meeting held on Wednesday with secretaries-general, water companies' directors, technicians, and all employees in the water sector.

During the meeting, he called for streamlining and simplifying procedures, providing efficient service to citizens, expediting solutions to grievances sent to the Water Complaints Center, responding professionally to citizens' feedback, and maintaining field communication to ensure quality of water and sanitation services.

The minister also urged implementation of periodic surveys to address malfunctions and ensure a consistent water supply, while emphasizing the need to regularly activate collection teams to prevent accumulation of outstanding payments on subscribers.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of continuous coordination among relevant departments and all local authorities to "effectively" meet citizens' needs.

Abu Soud stated the ministry is making efforts to secure new water sources and advance national projects, calling for disseminating its message on conserving water assets and using it properly for designated purposes.

The ministry, he noted, is working "diligently to ensure sufficient" water supplies for all subscribers, adhere to water distribution schedules for different areas, and enhance operational and maintenance efficiency in line with Water Sector Strategy.

Abu Soud urged citizens to cooperate with water sector teams and report any observations or grievances to the unified complaints center hotline (117116).
