Amman, July 15 (Petra) -- Security forces have arrested a Jordanian citizen suspected of murdering an American woman in Ireland, the ministries of interior and justice said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

Jordanian authorities received a notification from Irish officials regarding the murder, with preliminary investigations in Ireland pointing to the involvement of a Jordanian national.

Security agencies launched an immediate search operation, successfully tracking down the suspect and locating his residence, the statement said.

Following his arrest, police took the suspect's official statement before referring him to the prosecutor general of the Major Felonies Court.

The prosecutor has initiated formal investigation procedures and ordered the suspect to be detained at a correctional and rehabilitation center for 15 days as the investigation continues.
