27/ Water Ministry Signs JD3.3m Water Wells Upgrade Deal

Amman, June 29 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Monday signed a JD3.383 million agreement with a local contractor to rehabilitate and upgrade wells and pumping stations in Al-Hasa in Tafileh Governorate.

The project is financed by the United States government with JD2.088 million and the Water Authority with JD1.799 million. It aims to increase station output from 650 cubic meters to 750 cubic meters per hour.

Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Soud said the ministry is accelerating the rehabilitation of water facilities to meet rising demand, improve supply efficiency and address distribution imbalances.

He said the project will serve most areas of Tafileh and improve water access for residents. It includes rehabilitation and modernization of three pumping stations in Al-Hasa, covering mechanical and electrical works, pump room maintenance, and upgrades to tanks and associated facilities.

Abu Soud said Al-Hasa stations 1 and 2 include four pumps with a capacity of 400 cubic meters per hour, while station 3 has six pumps with a capacity of 300 cubic meters per hour, feeding Al-Ais and Al-Hareer reservoirs.

He said the project also includes implementation of a modern Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for monitoring and operating pumping stations and wells, along with FCV systems, valves, meters, RTU units, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and electrical panels, as well as linking Al-Hasa wells to the SCADA network.

Abu Soud thanked the US for continued support for water and wastewater projects to address Jordan’s water challenges.
