34/ Senate president, Meridiam CEO talk national carrier project, investment opportunities in Jordan
Amman, June 29 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez met Monday with Thierry Dhieu, CEO of French infrastructure investment company Meridiam, to discuss the implementation of Jordan's National Carrier project and investment opportunities in the Kingdom. According to a Senate statement, the meeting was held on the sidelines of Fayez's visit to France at the invitation of French Senate President Gérard Larcher. It was attended by Jordan's Ambassador to France Lina Hadid and Vice-President of the French-Jordanian Parliamentary Friendship Committee in the French Senate, Etienne Bleu. Fayez and an accompanying delegation were briefed by Dhieu on Meridiam's role in the National Carrier project, which the company will implement through a consortium of international firms. Dhieu outlined the consortium's financial capacity and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the project in line with the highest international technical standards. Dhieu highlighted Meridiam's interest in expanding its investments in Jordan, describing the Kingdom as a stable and secure country that offers promising investment opportunities and an attractive business environment. Fayez, in turn, underscored the strength of Jordanian-French relations across the political, economic and parliamentary spheres, stressing both countries' commitment to strengthening their partnership. He praised the role of the parliamentary friendship committees in deepening cooperation. He expressed appreciation for Meridiam's commitment to the National Carrier project, describing it as a strategic, long-term solution to Jordan's water scarcity challenge and a promising investment with strong returns. The Senate president discussed investment opportunities in Jordan in renewable energy, railway development, public transport and infrastructure. He said the Kingdom offers a secure and attractive investment climate, supported by legislation that provides incentives and facilitation measures for investors, affirming Jordan's readiness to provide all necessary support for French investment projects. Fayez called on Meridiam and French companies to capitalise on value-added investment opportunities across Jordan's key economic sectors. He commended the contributions of French companies, financial institutions and the French Development Agency in supporting Jordan's development priorities in water, infrastructure, energy and economic modernisation. Bleu reaffirmed the depth of relations between Jordan and France and called for expanding cooperation in various fields.
