Petra, June 29 (Petra) - The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) and UN Women Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday to bolster cooperation in women’s economic empowerment and social resilience in the Petra region. Fatima Hilalat, PDTRA's Commissioner of Local and Environment Development, and Manal Benkirane, Deputy Representative of UN Women Jordan signed the agreement. Hilalat said the partnership is important for expanding women’s roles in local communities by allowing access to training, employment opportunities, and meaningful participation in development efforts. Benkirane called for furthering women’s economic and social empowerment as a foundation for sustainable development and community stability. Under the MoU, both sides will support development centers as safe and inclusive spaces for women, offering vocational training programs aligned with labor market needs, economic empowerment opportunities, and improved access to employment pathways. The agreement aims to amplify gender-responsive approaches in designing and implementing programs, while promoting women’s participation in public life, leadership development, and local decision-making in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and national priorities. //Petra// HA
