46/ EU to impose 3-euro tariff on small parcels to curb cheap Chinese imports
Amman, June 29 (Petra) -- The European Union is preparing to introduce a flat 3-euro tariff on small parcels entering the bloc from non-EU countries, a move aimed at curbing the massive influx of low-priced Chinese goods and protecting domestic retail competitiveness. According to Euronews, effective this Wednesday, all shipments valued under 150 euros will be subject to the new fee. The regulation effectively ends the long-standing "de minimis" exemption, which previously allowed low-value packages to enter European markets duty-free. The policy shift follows an unprecedented surge in small-package imports into the EU. Shipping volumes skyrocketed from roughly 1.3 billion parcels in 2022 to 5.9 billion in 2025. European Commission data indicates that approximately 90 percent of these shipments originate from China, driven largely by e-commerce giants such as Shein and Temu. //Petra// AF
