11/ Transport Minister Meets Shipping Association on Regional Risks to Supply Chains

Amman, March 5 (Petra) -- Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin on Thursday met with the head and board members of the Jordan Shipping Association and was briefed on maritime services and challenges facing shipping companies amid regional tensions affecting freight movement and supply chains.

Qatamin stressed the importance of maintaining the efficiency and continuity of supply chains under all conditions, calling for intensified efforts to keep trade flows and logistics services moving smoothly. He highlighted the critical role played by the association and shipping companies in supporting this objective and managing evolving regional dynamics.

He underscored the need for continuous readiness for any contingency that could disrupt maritime transport, including developing alternative plans to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods and commodities. He also pointed to the strategic importance of Aqaba Port as Jordan’s primary maritime gateway and a central hub for trade and supplies.

The meeting also emphasized strengthening coordination and integration between the public and private sectors to address current challenges. Participants agreed to form a joint working group comprising the Ministry of Transport, the Jordan Shipping Association, and relevant stakeholders to monitor developments, develop appropriate solutions, support the maritime transport sector, and safeguard supply-chain sustainability and performance.
