16/ Minister Reviews Supply Chains, Strategic Stocks With Food Sector

Amman, March 5 (Petra) -- Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah on Thursday met with representatives of the food industries sector to review supply-chain operations and ensure the sustainability of Jordan’s strategic stocks of essential commodities.

Qudah outlined key recent government decisions, including ending Aqaba Port exclusivity for imports, allowing goods to be imported through land crossings for one month, and granting exemptions on customs duties and taxes arising from increased maritime freight charges.

He stressed the need to avoid any impact on prices and to maintain market stability, particularly during Ramadan. He said the decision to ban the export of basic commodities is intended to safeguard adequate domestic supply and ensure traders receive allocated quantities at fair prices.

Qudah said exports of key goods will remain suspended and will only be permitted once inventories are sufficient to cover national needs across sectors, in line with the ministry’s food-security approach and efforts to meet citizens’ requirements.

Food manufacturers said their stocks of essential goods are sufficient, noting current quantities are adequate. They also expressed appreciation for government measures that streamline import procedures and reduce operating costs.
