22/ Men’s Basketball Team Ranks 41st Globally in Latest FIBA Rankings
Amman, March 5 (Petra) -- The senior men’s national basketball team fell three places in the latest FIBA world rankings, settling 41st globally, eighth in Asia, and second among Arab teams with 345.9 points. The decline came despite Jordan’s recent positive results, coinciding with the postponement of the remaining games in the second window of the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup for the West and Gulf zones due to current regional conditions. Jordan had been scheduled to face Iraq in the second window, but the game was postponed to the start of the third window, set for late June. Jordan opened the second window with a key away win over Iran, 73-60, in Beirut, Lebanon, in Group C action.
The victory lifted Jordan to six points at the top of the group standings, strengthening its prospects of securing a place in the next phase of the road to the 2027 World Cup. The coaching staff is aiming to maintain momentum ahead of the resumption of qualifiers in the third window, viewed as a critical stage in Jordan’s push to secure the World Cup qualification.
