31/ FM, Irish counterpart discuss regional tensions

Amman, March 5 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks with Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Defence Helen McEntee on the implications of escalating tensions in the Middle East for international security and stability.

During a phone call, the two ministers reviewed prospects for restoring calm through active diplomacy, in a way that safeguards regional security, stability, and respect for international law.

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of the recent Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and on Gulf states, describing them as unjustified acts of escalation and blatant violations of international law and national sovereignty.

He stressed that Jordan will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens, security, stability, and sovereignty.

The ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as the serious deterioration unfolding in Lebanon.
McEntee affirmed Ireland’s solidarity with Jordan in confronting the Iranian attacks.
