9/ Ministry, Aviation Commission sign JD500,000 afforestation agreement in Madaba
Amman, March 5 (Petra) – The Ministry of Environment and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement to implement an afforestation project in Madaba Governorate aimed at supporting biodiversity conservation and climate action efforts over a 60-month period at a total cost of JD500,000. The initiative, titled the "Forest Biodiversity Conservation and Awareness Project (Plant Complex)," seeks to expand forest cover and raise environmental awareness as part of national sustainability efforts. It also supports the implementation of the Kingdom’s Economic Modernization Vision and broader national measures to address climate change. The agreement was signed by Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman and Chief Commissioner of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, Captain Daifallah Alfarajat. The project aims to conserve forest genetic resources outside their natural habitats, protect and cultivate plant species to ensure their long-term sustainability, and establish an innovative awareness platform highlighting the importance of forest biodiversity in the Kingdom. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Suleiman said the partnership reflects institutional coordination to safeguard the national environment while advancing the government’s economic modernization agenda. Alfarajat said the commission’s participation reflects its commitment to social and environmental responsibility and its support for initiatives that help reduce carbon emissions and expand the Kingdom’s green cover. //Petra// AJ
