40/ Environment Minister calls on influencers to boost public environmental awareness
Amman, March 17 (Petra) - Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman emphasized the pivotal role of influencers and activists in promoting environmental awareness and fostering a societal culture that values the cleanliness of recreational areas, forests, and nature reserves. He highlighted the importance of using their platforms to reach the widest possible audience and encourage positive, responsible behaviors toward the environment. The remarks came during a meeting on Tuesday with Secretary General Omar Arabiat and a group of environmental activists and influencers from across Jordan to discuss preparations for implementing the executive program of the National Cleanliness Strategy and reducing random littering ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday. During the meeting, participants discussed various ideas and initiatives aimed at raising environmental awareness among citizens and addressing harmful behaviors that negatively impact the cleanliness of Jordan’s environment, contributing to preserving the country’s civic image. Participants stressed the importance of collaboration between official authorities and local communities, praising the Ministry of Environment for its responsiveness to the ideas presented and its commitment to translating them into practical actions on the ground. Following the meeting, the "Keep Your Bag in Your Car" initiative was launched, distributing over 3,000 environmentally friendly cloth bags to drivers in the vicinity of the ministry building, encouraging them to collect waste inside their vehicles and dispose of it properly. The initiative is part of a series of awareness activities the Ministry of Environment aims to implement, in partnership with youth and influencers, to strengthen public cleanliness culture, reduce negative behaviors during recreational seasons and holidays, and foster a more sustainable environment that reflects Jordan’s civic standards. //Petra// AF
