Amman, March 29 (Petra) -- Electronic payments for mobile devices and accessories in Jordan totaled JD58.3 million in 2025, underscoring continued growth in digital transactions within the retail segment despite shifting import trends and pricing pressures.

Data released by the Vision Association for Mobile Devices Investors showed that approximately 1.4 million transactions were conducted during the year using bank cards or mobile wallets through point-of-sale (POS) terminals at mobile phone and accessories shops, reflecting steady expansion in electronic payment usage across the sector.

The data also indicated a slight decline in total payment value compared with 2024, when electronic payments reached JD60.2 million, despite recording around 1.2 million transactions in that year. This suggests a shift in average transaction values or changing consumer spending patterns.

On the import side, Jordan imported around 1.7 million mobile devices in 2025, with a total value of JD162 million, marking a decline from 2024 levels of JD176 million for approximately 1.855 million devices. The figures point to a moderation in demand or adjustments within the market.

Meanwhile, tablet imports reached about 389,000 units in 2025, with a total value of JD58 million, according to data from the Jordan Customs Department based on certified customs invoices, indicating continued demand for such devices across consumer and educational segments.

Chairman of the association, Ahmad Alloush, said the average price of a tablet stood at approximately JD149 in 2025, noting that the increase in import value despite a lower number of units compared with 2024 reflects rising prices in manufacturing countries.

Overall, the data suggests that Jordan’s mobile device market is navigating a dual dynamic of expanding electronic payment adoption alongside evolving demand patterns and upward pricing pressures driven by global supply conditions.
