22/ Music, theater classes have never been removed from curriculum, says education minister
Amman, May 2 (Petra) -- Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah on Saturday dismissed reports circulating online that the ministry had decided to "reinstate" music and theater classes in public schools, clarifying that these subjects have never been removed from the national curriculum. In a statement, Mahafzah said music, art, and theater have been taught for decades within approved educational frameworks and remain a "firmly established" part of the school system. The minister’s comments followed social media speculation linking a visit by a delegation from the Jordanian Artists Syndicate on Saturday to a supposed policy shift regarding the arts. Mahafzah clarified that the meeting was intended to strengthen existing cooperation and coordination on educational issues rather than to reintroduce classes that are already active. "This link is inaccurate and is not based on correct information," Mahafzah said, expressing surprise at the phrasing of the reports. He added that such rumors ignore the ministry's ongoing role in maintaining and developing these subjects as a permanent component of the Jordanian educational landscape. //Petra// AF
