Vilnius, May 18 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Lithuanian counterpart K?stutis Budrys met in Vilnius on Monday to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries in a host of key sectors.

They agreed to hold the first round of formal political consultations between the two countries in the coming months to lay out a roadmap for priority sectors and feasible steps to bolster cooperation.

The ministers underscored the deep friendship and a keen mutual interest to develop cooperation across economics, investment, defense, education, tourism and cybersecurity, among other sectors.

They also discussed expanding coordination within international organizations and the European Union.

Safadi, on a visit to Lithuania, the first by a Jordanian foreign minister to the Baltic state, highlighted the Jordan-EU Investment Conference, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom later this year, as an opportunity for Lithuanian business leaders to learn first-hand about Jordan's investment environment.

On regional affairs, Safadi briefed Budrys on the repercussions of a serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank, and efforts to end it and restore security and stability.

Safadi briefed the Lithuanian minister on the escalation in the West Bank as a result of Israel's illegal measures that undermine the two-state solution, which Lithuania supports as the path to bring about peace.

Safadi called for collective international efforts to halt Israeli actions and protect just peace and international law.

The ministers also talked about Gaza, stressing the need to consolidate stability and remove Israeli obstacles for the immediate and full flow of humanitarian aid.

Safadi thanked Lithuania for its support of the two-state solution and regional stabilization efforts.

Also during his visit, Safadi met Lithuanian Parliament Deputy Speaker Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen at the Seimas (parliament) to discuss cooperation across key sectors, as well as issues of common interest.
