  29/ Jordan’s World Cup Stars Begin Final Preparations for Historic 2026 Debut

Amman, May 18 (Petra) -- Players from the national football team have begun immersive preparations for their historic debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to kick off on June 11 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The national team, colloquially known as "Al-Nashama," is set to compete in Group J alongside Austria, Algeria, and Argentina. Jordan will launch its tournament campaign against Austria on June 17, followed by a fixture against Algeria on June 23, before concluding the group stage against Argentina on June 28.

Following the conclusion of the domestic club season, international players have shifted focus to the national camp, initiating administrative and logistical arrangements. National team manager Jamal Sellami recently announced a 30-man provisional squad for the tournament, featuring:

Goalkeepers: Yazeed Abulaila, Abdallah Al-Fakhouri, Noureddin Bani Ateyah, Ahmad Juhaidi.
Defenders: Abdallah Naseeb, Yazan Al-Arab, Husam Abu Al-Dahab, Mohammad Abu Al-Nadi, Saleem Obaid, Saed Al-Rosan, Ehsan Haddad, Ahmad Assaf.
Midfielders/Forwards: Anas Badawi, Mohannand Abu Taha, Mohammad Abu Hasheesh, Mohammad Abu Ghoush, Ibrahim Sadeh, Amer Jamous, Nizar Al-Rashdan, Noor Al-Rawabdeh, Youssef Qashi, Rajaei Ayed, Mohammad Al-Dawoud, Mahmoud Mardi, Musa Al-Taamari, Ibrahim Sabrah, Oudah Al-Fakhouri, Mohammad Abu Zrayq, Ali Azaizeh, and Ali Olwan.

Injured and fatigued players have commenced individualized recovery and conditioning training under the supervision of the team's technical and medical staff ahead of the final official pre-tournament gathering.
The local preparatory camp will officially begin this coming Thursday at the Nashama Preparation Center in the capital, Amman. The national delegation is scheduled to depart for Switzerland on the evening of Thursday, May 28.

Jordan will face Switzerland in an international friendly on May 31 at the Kybunpark stadium in the Swiss city of St. Gallen. Following the match, the team will travel to San Diego, California, for a training camp running from June 1 to June 10. This North American camp will feature a friendly match against Colombia on Sunday evening, June 7, at Snapdragon Stadium. The team will subsequently settle into its official World Cup base camp in Portland, Oregon.

Local sports figures and fans have expressed widespread solidarity ahead of the global tournament. Former national player Fayez Youssef noted that domestic club rivalries have halted as fans unite behind the national team to achieve standout results on the global stage.

Football enthusiast Mosleh Freihat praised the Jordan Football Association's scheduling of high-caliber friendlies against Switzerland and Colombia, describing them as ideal preparation for the rigorous group stage. Football analyst Moath Abdullah added that the team has entered a critical, serious phase, noting that Sellami's selected roster represents an optimal squad based on the manager's tactical vision.
