Amman, Sept. 28 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez welcomed the United Kingdom’s reaffirmation of its commitment to the two-state solution and its decision to ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and introduce restrictions on services linked to settlement activity.

Fayez said the measures are consistent with international law and contribute to efforts to hold entities involved in settlement activities accountable. He called for further international measures to address what he described as Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that attention to the situation in Gaza should also extend to the West Bank.

His remarks came Monday during a meeting he chaired between the Senate’s Committee on Arab and International Affairs and Expatriates and a British parliamentary delegation representing the Conservative Party, in cooperation with the party’s Middle East Council. The meeting addressed Jordanian-British relations and developments in the region.

Fayez highlighted the longstanding Jordanian-British relationship and Jordan’s interest in expanding cooperation in economic, investment, political and parliamentary fields, as well as maintaining coordination on issues of mutual interest.

The British delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role in supporting regional peace and stability and highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts to address regional and international challenges and promote dialogue, coexistence and peace.

The delegation also recognized the King’s custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and his efforts to preserve their status.

Members of the delegation stressed the importance of parliamentary exchanges in strengthening communication, sharing expertise and perspectives, and advancing parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
