New York, Sept. 28 (Petra) -- The United Nations Security Council held its monthly meeting on the Question of Palestine on Monday, hearing a briefing from the Acting UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2334 regarding Israeli settlements.

Resolution 2334, adopted 10 years ago, demands that Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and fully respect all of its legal obligations.

Alakbarov stressed that the status quo is "morally, legally, and politically unacceptable," highlighting relentless settlement expansion, ongoing violence, and forced displacement in the occupied West Bank, alongside the fragility of the ceasefire and continued military operations in Gaza.

According to the report submitted to the council covering the period from June 13 to September 18 Israeli planning authorities advanced or approved plans for nearly 4,570 housing units in Area C of the West Bank and 3,515 units in East Jerusalem. Additionally, the Israeli Housing Ministry issued tenders for approximately 2,240 housing units in Area C, including 1,234 units in the E1 area near Jerusalem.

The UN envoy noted that the Israeli military issued an "unprecedented order" to seize privately owned Palestinian land in Area A near Qabatiya, south of Jenin, to construct a road connecting the settlements of Mevo Dothan and Einav, two of 34 recently approved settlements.

"This represents the first reported seizure of land in Area A explicitly earmarked for settlement infrastructure," Alakbarov said, adding that Palestinian evictions from homes in East Jerusalem continue unabated.
